What Bai Sao Beach Accommodation Options Actually Exist?

The honest answer: not many. Within 3 km of Bai Sao you'll find somewhere between 15 and 20 bookable properties — a mix of small boutique resorts, bungalow operations, and basic guesthouses. There's no strip of hotels here, no walkable row of options. Properties are spread along the access road and tucked behind the tree line.

The upper end of what's available near Bai Sao runs to small boutique resorts with private pools and garden bungalows, typically $80–120/night in the dry season. These are the places that photograph well and read as remote escapes. They usually have their own restaurant on-site, which is good, because your evening dining options outside the property are limited to a few seafood shacks right at the beach. The food at those shacks is decent enough — grilled fish, squid, rice — but it's the same menu every night.

Mid-range bungalow properties cluster around $40–70/night. Fan or air-con rooms, sometimes a small pool shared between 10–15 units, a basic breakfast included. Quality varies significantly even within this bracket — I'd recommend reading recent reviews carefully, since upkeep at smaller operations can slip during the wet season when bookings thin out.

Who Does Bai Sao Beach Accommodation Actually Suit?

Couples on a short trip who've already seen the busier parts of the island. That's the clearest answer. If you've done a few days on Long Beach — night market, tours, the usual rotation — and you want your last two nights to feel different, Bai Sao works well. The pace is slower, the beach is emptier in the mornings, and the bungalow properties down here tend to be smaller and more personal than the mid-range resorts further north.

It also suits anyone planning a snorkelling or island-hopping day trip from An Thoi port. The An Thoi archipelago tours depart early — pickup at your accommodation by 7:30–8:00 AM is standard. Being 5 km from the port instead of 30 km from it matters when you're trying to get going that early without rushing.

Families with young children are a harder fit, unless you pick one of the small resorts with a pool and you're planning to stay put for most of the day. The beach itself is safe and shallow, but the surrounding area has almost no child-specific infrastructure — no playgrounds, no kids' clubs, no nearby convenience store for snacks and sunscreen. With small kids who need supplies, you'd be making runs north fairly often.

Solo travellers and digital nomads: I'd say no, unless you specifically don't need social contact or reliable high-speed internet. WiFi at the smaller properties near Bai Sao ranges from adequate to unreliable. Nobody has published proper speed-test data for this area; my experience visiting properties is that 10–20 Mbps is realistic on a good day, less in the evenings when multiple guests are streaming. For work-from-anywhere stays, Duong Dong is the better base by a large margin.

Getting to Bai Sao and Getting Around While You're There

From PQC Airport, Bai Sao is one of the shortest transfers on the island — roughly 12–14 km by road, about 20–25 minutes. A Grab car from the airport typically costs 150,000–200,000 VND. Mai Linh metered taxis also operate on the island if Grab has no cars available.

From Duong Dong or Long Beach, the drive south takes 35–45 minutes on the main road. The road is fine — paved, not congested except near the ferry terminal when boats are coming in. On a motorbike it's an easy ride; I've done it dozens of times. The southern stretch gets prettier as you go — the road runs through patches of pepper farms and cashew orchards before opening up near the coast.

Once you're based near Bai Sao, a motorbike is not optional — it's the difference between feeling free and feeling stuck. Grab availability in the south is thin. I've waited 20 minutes for a car at 7 PM near Bai Sao when the network showed two drivers on the map. Most guesthouses and small resorts in the area can arrange motorbike rental for around 120,000–150,000 VND per day; sort this on arrival, not the day you need it.

One thing I tell guests planning the An Thoi island tours: book your boat trip before you head south, not after you arrive. The operators run out of slots for the popular snorkelling tours (the ones that include the coral reef near Hon Thom) a day or two ahead during peak season. For the An Thoi area specifically — the port town 5 km from Bai Sao — there are a few guesthouses, but I genuinely don't recommend using An Thoi as a base. The setting is functional port infrastructure, not holiday accommodation. Bai Sao itself, 5 km east, is a far better place to sleep even if you're doing boat trips out of An Thoi every day.
